New Generation Rollingstock Project Accessibility Upgrade Program Complete
Qtectic is proud to have played a key role in the delivery of the NGR Accessibility Upgrade Program that was completed ahead of schedule.
Qtectic is responsible for the delivery of the New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) train fleet and for the maintenance of the fleet for 30 years which represents a A$4.4 billion Public Private Partnership with the Queensland State Government. The contract when first awarded in 2013, was the largest single investment by Queensland in trains.
The Qtectic consortium is made up of four Sponsors, John Laing, Aberdeen Asset Management, Itochu Corporation and Alstom.
The NGR Project is an important passenger rolling stock project, providing 75 electrified six-car trains, each with capacity for 964 passengers and fitted 0_1,.1t with Wi-Fi, CCTV, and LCD infotainment displays.
A subsequent A$335. 7 million Accessibility Upgrade Program was completed in July 2024, several months ahead of schedule. This upgrade, undertaken by our delivery partner, Alstom, has delivered the most accessible rail fleet Queensland has ever seen. The Accessibility Upgrades include the addition of a second toilet on all 75 NGR trains, increasing the size of toilet modules by 10%, and installing new functional improvements for people with disabilities.
Further modifications that are currently underway include implementation of a European Train Control System (ETCS), which is modern signalling system that will enable increased capacity on the rail network. In addition, the trains are being modified to enable Automatic Train Operations (ATO) and interfaces with Platform Screen Doors (PSD) within the Cross River Rail tunnel.
Qtectic is thrilled to have played a key role in the delivery of the NGR Accessibility Upgrade Program and underscores the strong working relationships it has with the Queensland State Government and Alstom.
